thoughts on freelance | plan it out.

freelance01D freelance01bi’m going to start talking freelance on the blog.  it’s a completely different animal than corporate america and i’ve honestly never been happier.  even with the downsides of freelancing, it’s something i’m passionate about so it doesn’t feel like work.

one of the best gifts i got for christmas (i actually won this at our white elephant exchange!) was my day planner!  i’ve always been into pen + paper kinds of planners (vs. electronic ones) and i have found them extremely useful in making my life easier and more organized.  last week i was feeling super overwhelmed with everything i wanted to get done, that i barely got anything done.  i would sit at my computer all day going back and forth between several projects, but not making it very far on any single one and it was driving me crazy.  i like to feel like i accomplished something at the end of the day and it felt like i was getting nowhere.  enter: my planner.  game changer, people.  for this week, i wrote down what i wanted to work on for each day of the week and it helped out SO much!  i also have been using it to plan out each day’s blog post, work out, and what i’m going to cook for dinner.  so far, so good.   here’s to planners and trying my best to stay on top of things!  happy friday!

WALLS | the daily dose.

dailydose23 dailydose2dailydose4dailydose13dailydose11dailydose12sooo i’m starting a new column here called WALLS.  i will be featuring the interiors of cool [to me] places i have been to including coffee shops, apartments, and perhaps cute retail shops and office spaces.  i have some reallyyy cute apartments in the queue right now and you should be seeing a few in the next several weeks!

we spent some time in LA when we were in california and discovered the daily dose!  reis had to be in downtown LA for some school stuff, and i needed a coffee shop to camp out at for most of the day to get work done.  it’s tucked away in an alley and the brick walls are covered in ivy!  it’s incredibly charming and it kind of feels like you walked straight into alice and wonderland.  the coffee, scones, and sandwiches they serve are really fresh + delicious, AND they have a huge room full of tables (and outlets…very important!) if you need get work done.  i highly recommend you take a little visit if you live in the LA area.  it’s definitely on my “top ten favorite coffee shops list” and i promise you’ll dig it too.

california recap.

california will forever hold a special place in my heart.  i love the weather, i love the people, i love shopping at trader joe’s & anthropologie, and i love all of the unique cities and places that are only a drive away.  it’s especially amazing during the holidays because 1) i love my family’s christmas traditions and 2) all of my friends that i’ve grown up with since kindergarten are back in town.  reis and i stayed pretty busy the whole time we were there and enjoyed a couple of road trips up and down the state.

WORK | the wedding planner.

MimiNicoleMoodBoard1anow that freelancing design is my full-time gig, i am excited to start sharing my work up in these parts.  this particular mood board i created as the initial stage of rebranding the business of a truly talented wedding planner.  she has amazing style all around and i am so honored and excited to work on this project.  her aesthetic for her company is beautiful (think feminine, classic, organic, elegant, and whimsical) and she has been an absolute joy to work with!  can’t wait to share more!

and we’re back.

andwereback

well shoot.  i successfully went most of december AND most of january without blogging.  woops.  i don’t really have any good excuses other than the fact that we were in california for the past month traveling all around my beautiful home state.  we had such a good time seeing faces we don’t get to see on a regular basis and spending quality time with family and friends.  on the plane ride back to hawaii on sunday, i got a wave of inspiration and busted out my journal to write down lots of ideas i have for this blog.  i can’t wait to start sharing them on here!  we had such an amazing time on our trip but i am super excited to be back in our little home and to get back into a routine.  i am currently working hard on my own branding and new site design along with a few other design projects.  lots to share in the near future!

2012 was really, really good to us.

happyny2happyny4happyny5

2012 was nothing short of blessed (and busy!) for our family.  i got engaged and found out i was going to be an aunt (on the same day!), my brother got married to the sweetest sister-in-law anyone could ask for, we planned our dream wedding, i made several 36 hour trips to LA to do wedding stuff, we met our adorable niece for the first time and fell in love instantly, i quit my job, changed my career path, and went freelance, i married my best friend, we had an incredible honeymoon exploring italy together, and for the past few weeks have been enjoying california with my family and friends for christmas and new year’s!

we are tremendously thankful for a god who abundantly loves, blesses, and provides for us and we are so excited to see what 2013 has in store.  happy new year to you!
